On January 3rd 2026 at 16th St and J St an emergency action was held in response to "Operation Absolute Resolve" overseen by the Trump Administration that morning in which Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro and her husband, Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro were abducted, and Venezuela's largest military complex, an airbase and airport, a seaport shipping facility, and nearby residential buildings were all bombed. Previously, there were more than 30 US bomb strikes on Venezuelan civilian boats. At least 195 people have been killed since the bombing began.
All were targeted based on Trump Administration allegations of drug trafficking involvement. However, the DEA annual National Drug Threat Assessments do not indicate Venezuela as a main nor even a moderate source or transit country for U.S.-bound fentanyl or cocaine, especially in comparison to the Central and South American countries with which the Trump administration has a neutral or positive relationship.
Through sanctions, asset freezes based on the pretexts of drug trafficking and US rightful ownership, and a more recent US naval blockade and seizure of Venequelan oil tankers, the US purportedly aims to control Venezuela's oil to rebuild US infrastructure and profit in the region. In years past, the US pretext of encouraging democracy was used to justify its assault on Venezuela.
The demonstrators spoke to the details of, and resistance to, this ongoing US imperialism. The co-sponsors and endorsers of this demonstration condemning this US imperialism:
