On April 22, 2024, The Peace and Freedom Party State Executive Committee voted to recognize Claudia De la Cruz as the Party’s “presumptive nominee” for President of the United States. The Party will officially choose its nominee at its State Convention meeting on August 3, 2024.
The SEC made this decision because the results of the March primary indicate that Claudia De la Cruz will almost certainly be nominated. De la Cruz got more votes (47%) than any other candidate. But the determining factor is who was elected to the Peace and Freedom Party State Central Committee in the March election and elected SCC members will be the voting delegates at the convention.
The newly elected members of the State Central Committee will make the formal selection. The new State Central Committee will have about 100 members who have indicated their support for De la Cruz, compared to about 30 other members who are uncommitted or are supporters of Cornel West or Jasmine Sherman, who were also candidates in the March primary.
