Tens of thousands of University of California academic workers have authorized the historic multi-unit and statewide strike which began today, Monday, November 14th. This is said to be the largest strike in the history of higher education and is authorized by UAW 2865, UAW 5810 and SRU-UAW.

This strike is in response to the University of California’s unfair labor practices which have prevented workers from being able to win fair and just contracts that address key issues such as:

  • Wage increases to match the cost of living,
  • Rent burden,
  • Childcare reimbursements,
  • Equity for international students, and
  • Job security.

The Peace and Freedom Party stands in solidarity with the UC academic workers in their historic struggle to transform the UC system into one that serves the working class of California. We encourage members to join the workers in solidarity on the picket lines.

PFP also encourages monetary donations to the Strike Support and Hardship fund and food/water donations to be delivered to the Engineering VI picket line.
