Subject: AB 1984 (Rogers): Corporate powers. Support.
Dear Assembly Member Rogers,
The Peace and Freedom Party of California supports your AB 1984. We strongly support eliminating corporate monies and influences from our elections. Removing the financial power of a corporation “to engage in ballot issue activity or election activity” would be a significant step in returning the election process to the people. Elected officials are servants of the people and should not be beholden to financial contributors of their election campaigns.
We do recognize that corporations would retain their First Amendment right of freedom of speech: this bill only restricts their financial ability.
Our preferred solution to the problem of financial manipulation of elections would be public funding of all election campaigns. And any public funding must not discriminate between candidates, it must be equal for all ballot qualified candidates.
