Over one thousand University of California academic workers gathered in Oakland’s Snow Park on November 28, 2022, and marched to the office of the University system’s president in downtown Oakland. They completely filled the street, sometimes listening to speeches by fellow workers but mostly chanting “Shut it Down!”
The demonstrators were from U.C. Berkeley and U.C. San Francisco with some coming from as far as Davis. The entire body of University of California academic workers, represented by the United Auto Workers has been on strike since November 14.
Although one of the bargaining units has reached a tentative agreement with the University, they are remaining out with all of the other workers on strike.
The Peace & Freedom Party supports this strike. We attend picket lines and pass out leaflets informing the public about the just demands of the workers and how they can help.
